Rehearsals would only be as good as his ability to understand the language in which the song is written in.
Call me stupid but i think if he spoke the language he would have been able to make it work.
Rehearsing words you dont know the meaning of is like having a russian guy sing in afrikaans.
(which has been done before , oddly enough , Ivan Rebroff did it back in the day)
