Default Deus Ex Audio problem? Or something?

Please tell me anyone else have had this problem. My assault rifle's sound is missing. I suspect that it happened after one of the rate of fire upgrades that I did on it.

When I fire, there's no sound. It's like shooting an imaginary gun at people...very annoying..Has anyone had this? Or does anyone know how to fix it?

I've updated my sound drivers to the latest version and tried a whole bunch of other things with no result. I might re-install the game, but that seems like a bit overkill.

Did you make sure your sound effect options are full in the sound settings in the game?

It could also be a corrupt game file so also try reinstalling or repairing.

Change your sound card settings in game between headphones and stereo and see if that makes a difference. I know with COD4 and Win7 there are major conflicts etc... and either you can get in game but have no sound or the game crashes immediately and you have to change your win sound settings to read Headphones in order for the game to work properly.

@Merenwenrago: Yebo, it's only the assault rifles shooting sound. ALL the other sounds in the game work. Reloading, the bullets hitting the walls etc, but just not the gun's shooting sound. Very odd dude, it's like you're shooting a completely silenced gun at someone, only, they can hear it. Rofl. I did a defrag of the game files through steam as well is verifying the files, running the game directly from the .exe as admin etc, all that crap. To no avail :/.

Waco, I haven't tried that since it's not a graphics issue, it's an audio issue. But I will see if that makes a difference. It's sooo annoying! I don't really want to play the game like that

    here you go tooks

    No Game Sound or Audio

Talk about a common problem people experience! To fix the music and sound, you can try disabling Hardware Acceleration and also try to reduce the Sample Rate Conversion Quality to fix this:

    1) Load the Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices
    2) In the Volume tab, click the “Advanced” button under “Speaker settings”, then click the “Performance” tab
    3) Move the slider from “Full” and “Best” to “None” and “Good”. Now click “OK”
Try doing these one at a time rather than just lowering them both as you may not need to lower / disable both.
Another method is to use the infamous DXDIAG:
    1) Go to Start -> Run — type in “dxdiag”
    2) Click the “Sound” tab and under “DirectX Features” move the slider over from “Full Acceleration” to “no acceleration” to disable the setting for DirectSound

As if I haven't tried that already :P Since it's the only page in the whole farkin' interwebs that has any info relating to an audio error in DXHR hahahaha!! :P

Thanks anyways man. I tried all that stuff, but the hardware acceleration is only for OS's below Windows 7. None of the "troubleshooting" I found on the internet gave me any answers. Almost feels like I'm the only person having this problem :O. Maybe I should just re-install the game and get it over with.

Maybe it's a corrupt quicksave and I'll have to start the entire game over again. Super bleak.

Weird hope you find the fix for it. Only other thing I can think of is to uninstall the sound card and reinstall it again.

Sounds like a game bug. Load earlier saves to see if at any point the sound starts working again, try figure out what specifically broke the sound on the weapon.
