That's quite a beast you've spec'd there Joker. I do notice one interesting thing though, the laptop includes a Windows licence, but you haven't included that on your PC, which would even the price out a bit. Although, you could save a few K and still have a killer rig that I'm sure would out-perform the laptop.

You pay extra for the convenience of a laptop, it'll always be that way

Hi Joker, WOW that lan rig is exactly what I am looking for what more would need to be spent on that rig, only thing I can think of would be a operating system, only thing I would change would be a cheaper mouse and key baord and a speaker set rather than the head set, Is the pricing you used relistic? would that exact rig be good for home gaming, lan gaming and some internet gaming?

Well windows 7 ultimate 64 bit is around R1400 if you buy from a place like pc international, and like I said I was really stuffing around with that rig, You could build that setup for a lot less cash. Will do a budget rig later in the day so you can see.

The only time a gaming laptop makes sense is in the case of Xero, where he travels alot and then games while traveling.

Also there are very few gaming laptops that can run games like Crysis 2 with the DX11 upgrade on max settings and resolutions, not to mention something like Witcher 2.
That's why I stated high - max settings.

Surely everything's got their sacrifices and pros and cons!

That's where you need to take a step back and look at what's more important to you.

Me too, but when you play online it is not advised to play on max settings. Way too much lag then!

It does come down to personal preference. If you want a machine you can move around easily and can afford the most expensive laptop, then it is a valid choice. I wouldn't even spend that kind of money on a desktop machine just for games.
