I found a guy who said if it's just a standard repair required (i.e open her up, pound some shit) it's R250 and a complete laser replacement will be R280. I understand that's not too bad.

Ugh okay here we go. I had the same issue a few months ago. My warranty expired and I had to do something. Powercare quoted me R900 to get a brand new Xbox360, and times were tough back then. So I had a new DVD Drive installed through Games Xetra in Wilrogate. That worked lekker for a while, until yesterday when I tried to play Rugby World Cup 2011.

Now my Xbox is stuck in an infinite update loop and I don't know what to do...MS won't help me since I have a Samsung DVD Drive installed...anyone know what to do?

(I know this does not solve your issue, but you might encounter it if you install another DVD drive.)
    That's what she said.

A solution to this problem that I posted (if anyone encounters it in the future).

I phoned Games Xetra in Wilropark (Google them). They sorted my Xbox out, no issues. Will be able to collect it at the end of the month.

Infinite Update loop?. Try this. Won't even cost you R200.

Already got one...but I have so many Xbox 360 games that it would be a shame to not have a working Xbox 360.

I'd say invest in a new 1. Less time, less hassle.

Not sure where you are but if you a Durbanite then this dude can help: Rashid Muhammad. Cell: 0733473934

It's a console repair store. There are a few across Durban. This one is by the Hypermarket at the sea (you know, the one called Hypermarket by the Sea)
