Question HTC Wildfire/Android Rooting & Flashing

    Hi everyone,

I am interested in making my HTC Wildfire run faster. Angry birds lags WAY too much

So what does anyone know about rooting and flashing. Is it the way to go for making it run faster?

Essentially, I just want to reformat&reinstall like I do with windows every year to keep it running in tip top condition, but I am open to any thoughts. Typing on my Wildfire has become a mission because it lags so much :/

    Thanks all

Okay if you fulfill the requirements: here is the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396

For speed I suggest DK Custom froyo, but its only 2.2

For features I suggest CyanogenMod 7 (stable)
CM7 is faster then the stock ROM, but not as fast or stable as your original modded roms (like DK for example)

check out a list of other ROMs here

Cool. thanks. will look at it all tomorrow after my Physics exam. Is it possible to do this all without loosing all my apps and stuff? also, will I still be able to get HTC widgets? so far they have the nicest clocks that I have found. and I do love my widgets

You know what? screw it, i don't even want to keep all my apps, I'll just download new ones when I need them, like the old times. I'll just backup my photos and videos and such on my pc and start completely afresh :P

Also, I have the newest OTA update. 2.2.1

well sorry to burst your bubble, 2.2 can't be rooted

You can backup and restore your apps with Titanium Backup, nothing happens to the stuff on your memory card, always good to back that up anyway.
Those HTC apps are sense based (so they need a sense rom to work), CM7 for example doesn't have sense, but DK does

Balls! Can't do it. Revolutionary doesn't support my hboot and Unrevoked also doesn't like it... You were probably right. Can't do it from 2.2.1. meh... I won't give up though!

just a heads up - the wildfire is lacking a bit in hardware.. no amount of rooting/flashing will make angry birds run smooth :P
