You log into steam as per normal, Go into the game, Authenticate and go to Private match. As soon as all your friends joined, yo ustart the match and it automatically detects from the IP's that it's all LAN based.

Once you are ingame you will see that all the pings are Like LAN, Ranging from 2-10. So it's not 100% Offline LAN, bit it is regarded as "LAN" because of the latency etc.
and that exactly what it will be in MW3

Map thanks for pointing this out, you probably will need an internet connection and have to signed into steam, the offline LAN support wont be there because MW3 uses steamworks

What if Maplassie is wrong, what if they include the LAN feature and enable you to launch it in Offline mode from Steam ?

Then the world will actually end... This just in Activision now own the rights to the Mayan Calendar, and now it makes sense why the intro'd Elite - so they can grab your R400 for the year now before the world ends

Why can steam games like left for dead 2 and Portal 2 have full ofline lan but CoD can't? Activision should go hang themselves!

Well, how could you make a top FPS these days without LAN capabilities? Would have been a waste. I assume you still need to activate and have a Steam account, though?

I dont see anyone from the BF 3 camp complaining about a LAN function?

I dont see any game out today that has a pure offline LAN function so dont see what the point it for any game developer to even bother with that.
