I sure as heck dont hear the motor industry crying about loss of sales due to someone buying "oh no , second hand".
And whos to say the person who sold the game to a second hand store , didnt use it to buy another game ?

I happen to have bought my Heavy Rain 1st hand , but still , If they didnt have a platinum release I would have bought it 2nd hand. Perhaps theres a lesson in there , make your games more affordable !
I bought Red Dead Revolver - platinum release from take 2 , for R250.
Why ? Well its cheaper than a second hand copy of the game and the publishers still got my money.
Chew on that for a while.
