If I were to leave the country, I'd set myself up in either Botswana or Namibia, both crack down harder on crime and for a white guy, you can open simple businesses and create a lucritive living for yourself and the country will love you for it because you're making jobs for the natives.

The singularity is about to explode! Weapons are at maximum.

This is something ive been chewing on for well over 4 years now..

Currently I am working for one of the largest IT companies in the world (hint , we make laptops and LCD Tv's)
I am an exchange administrator and im 1 exam away from MCITP Enterprise Administrator.
I have my MCP / MCSE and ive worked in the IT industry for 10 years now.
Before this I worked as a 3rd line engineer for a large petrolium company monitoring IT Infrastructure on oil platforms and doing backups.

so I have a skill set.

My reason for posting this here (as rustpuppet seems to think i have a screw loose)
Is I love to hear from random people who have already taken the leap and where better than a local gaming forum where ex south african's might comment on the situation.

and no , its much more than "crime sucks" . if a certain individual become president this place is going to turn into zimbabwe.
If you need me to make a long winded forum post motivating my statement please ask me and I will make one.

Thanks to everyone whos shared their experiences so far !

Man, even if you only had 4-6 years of experience and just an MCSE I could place you almost anywhere in the world.

Currently I have a job that you may be too senior for in Sasolburg for a global EPCM company in the petrochemical industry. Interested? :-P Can't promise career growth, but they pay a good rate ;-)

I'm serious though, just with what you indicated above I can think of at least 5 companies who would like to talk to you, just in South Africa. If you know what steps to take to get a job you can be out of here in a few months. Being afraid that you won't get a job or anything is the last thing you should worry about :-)

@kerbyross: You'll have to go the corporate route & get your co to move you. On your own you won't get far because you don't get points for MS qualifications on emigration applications.

I think RustPuppet has the right idea. I know so many people who move to England to get away from crime and they just...come back. That said I don't really wanna live in South Africa forever, but that's not for crime reasons. Mainly just to see other places. I've got a European passport though so that'll probably make it way easier.

    http://www.immigration.co.nz/

These guys helped mates of mine + their parents settle in NZ. I'm planning on using them as well.

Take an hour or two to read through everything on their site. The one consultant has sat on parliamentary gatherings where he shredded their immigration laws, loopholes and red tape.

They offer real and relevant information, cutting out the B.S. of rosy promises etc. There are also a quite a bit of info on the types of qualifications that are recognised by NZ. E.g. my qualification and the place where I got it from is even listed on the N.Z. database as well as the date it became accepted.

A 5-min evaluation can be sent in to see whether you should even bother to pursue it or not - thereafter it'll set you back about R1500 for a full on evaluation, including an interview by them via email/telephone or skype.

This is your life you're dealing with here, don't take decision-level advice from forumites like myself. Do your homework.
