That... person... has long ago stepped into criminal harassment territory.

Maybe Graal should take it further? He would have my full support.
You also forget defamation of character in this situation. Doubt much will come from further action, but hey, I'd support the cause. The comments the trolls post whilst impersonating someone else is just completely unnecessary and a complete misrepresentation.

Still astounded that people like this have been bred by the internet =/

I don't think it's a matter of people like this having been bred by the internet. The guy's pretty much sociopathic: lack of remorse, lack of empathy, egocentric, manipulative and of course deceptive.

I think further action would be completely warranted in this regard. Get a criminal case against him, MyG divulges his IP, he gets tracked down, cops and courts take it from there.

People like this guy have issues and the sooner he gets a criminal case against him, the better so that future incidents realise that it's not just a "once off" thing.

Who knows what kind of person he is, he could already have a criminal record against him. I'd rather be safe than sorry, personally.

Normal people just don't behave this way.

The problem is, how do you track this guy? You'd have to get his ISP to help, seeing as we've got dynamic IPs, and even with that, he could just be hiding behind a VPN or proxy. At this point, with how frustrated I feel, it would definitely be a viable avenue for me. It's not like it's an isolated incident, either. It's clearly not limited to this site if he goes to the lengths to find my real name and personal details the way he does.

I've probably thrown myself in the deep end by constantly taking his bait, but there's really a point where things go from annoying to downright creepy, and it's reached that point. I've been forced to hide my profiles on social networking sites, because this guy really just doesn't seem normal. Nobody in their right mind goes to such lengths to troll just for the fun of it.

ISPs keep logs with timestamps of when their IPs were in use, what exchange and landline requested it, etc. With a court order and a police case opened, getting that information would be pretty easy (cyber crimes division exists for a reason and it would be the police's prerogative to investigate that further). Even if he's hiding behind a VPN or proxy, it can be traced back to that VPN/proxy which would also have logs (or the ISP of that VPN/proxy would) of incoming/outgoing connections and how often do you think he would've bothered to use one even if that weren't possible? All it would take is one slip-up to find him.

Exactly my feelings on the matter.

Seriously, if this continues, take it further. He wouldn't be the first internet troll to be arrested and thrown in jail either. As you said, there's a fine line between annoying and blatant harassment/stalking and privacy violation.

This guy's given you MORE than enough evidence to work with. He thinks he's smart, let him continue digging his grave if that's what you want, then show him the inside of a South African prison.

In that case, it certainly sounds like a good option to me. If it continues, I'll definitely look into it. I'm not quite sure I want the guy thrown in jail for it, but some forced psychology sessions sounds like it can't do any harm. It's always all fun and games, until things start getting serious.

I don't mind being the butt end of a joke every once in a while, but if you start getting personal and harass me, that doesn't fly. I mean, he got information on me from not only MyBB, but also went forth to, I assume, Twitter and/or Facebook, then posted it here on the site. That's just not on. If he posted it under his real nick or real name, it wouldn't even bother me, but the fact that it's some ass masquerading under the guise of anonymity, that bothers me.

Sadly registration would not prevent juvenile delinquents like this from posting their dribble. Just look at News 24. Need to register and yet people still troll like they are paid to.

Yeah, but at least using registered accounts, they can be banned for trolling.

What is of possibly worse is that some people think nothing of trolls that spew such crap. Personally I think it is a very sad indication of the type of people living on earth today. And then people wonder why the world is in such constant shit. Because assholes like those are becoming tomorrows leaders.
