Last night my mom phoned me to let me know that my foster brother's youngest has died in an accident. He got run-over by an Intercape bus...
He was only 7.
Brief background: My foster brother got his girlfriend pregnant when she was 15 (he was 16). Then again when she was 18. When her parents found out she was pregnant again, they made them get married. The marriage lasted 2 years. Then he caught her sleeping with another guy (he has heard rumours before then that she was sleeping around).
She is from a poor family that live in an old railway house next to railway tracks that are no longer used. The dad receives a disability grant and the mother also receives a welfare grant. They are the kind of ppl that think everyone owes them something.
So the mother still stayed with her parents, sponging off them. And demanded huge amounts of money from my foster brother for support. He used to give it, until he found out they use the money for cigarettes and booze and has since been paying school fees at the school. And bought the kids new clothes and shoes etc.
So last night the gran decided to send the kids (10 and 7 years) to the pick 'n pay AT 6PM! It is dark outside already.... The live outside town. The pick 'n pay is about 5-7km from them. And to get there, they have to walk alongside a very busy road. The road leads to the N4 (in fact, you can see the N4 from their house).
The 10 year old sister saw the whole thing. They phoned him up and said: "Oh you must've heard your son was run over just now."
And the way I know them they will tell that poor lil girl it is her fault her brother got run over. And they most probably will scold her too for not getting the groceries/losing it (not sure whether it happened on the way home or to the shop).
I am sooooo mad at them for doing such an irresponsible thing. And feel sad at the same time. I hope the courts will now at long last give him full custody of his daughter. (He has remarried in the mean time.)
