Price difference between UK and everywhere else

I just noticed something interesting on Gamersgate, specifically the game Bulletstorm. On Steam and gamersgate.com and pretty much everywhere else online, the list price for this game is $59 (currently on special @ 66% off for $20 at GG). However, at gamersgate.co.uk, the game is also on special @ 33% off for 10 pounds with the normal list price being 15 pounds.

So when comparing the list price before the discounts of GG UK, the price comes to approx R190 vs R490 everywhere else online or approx R350 in local stores. I've noticed it with other games as well (of which I can remember none at the moment), but this one is quite a big difference.

Does anybody know why this is? Do they sell watered-down or censored versions of the game or do the pommies get cheaper games as part of some consolation prize for losing some contest or something?

Bought it for this price a few months ago. I find EA to be extremely lazy about lowering game prices for digital copies of their games. Just go look at Take2 and then Steam prices.

Mass Effect 2 - Steam $50(R390), Take2 R84
C&C4 - Steam $30 (R234), Take2 R84
Medal of Honor - Steam $60 (R468), Take2 R129

Actually, I bought Bulletstorm from Take2 last week at that price.
I see Kalahari has also reduced their price on it this week... last week it was still at over R350 and Exclus1ves is still priced at R320.

I'm not really referring to the very old games here since games that are over a year old will always be cheaper in store than online since you can get it as a Super Hits, EAClassics or EAValue brand which is usually priced at R40-R100. Although, even on Mass Effect 2, the list price difference between Steam and the UK edition is approx 40%. I'm actually referring to digital distribution here since ordering games online from a SA retailer means receiving physical media and not actually downloading the game after the purchase.

The anomaly here however, is that for the same company (Gamersgate), the US prices are the same as Steam, and more expensive than the UK price.

No, the versions are the same most of the time, but the price settings are not.
It is the publishers that set the prices and I guess they still have to adjust to the normal regional prices to satisfy retail shops.

The only reason we have a UK site really, is that it was a demand from one of the publishers. I will not mEAntion which one.
