Also, an origin tale a la Batman Begins

I'll just state what we're all thinking;
This is going to be shit and probably tank.
The only game-to-movie adaptation I've enjoyed recently was Prince of Persia, and even that was better as a stand-alone story, rather than a direct adaptation of the film. Other than that, I can't really think of any good game-to-movie adaptations.
I think the best game movie adaptations would be one set in the universe but not based directly on a game. Kind of like the Mass Effect & Halo Novels. It shares the odd character but mostly fills the spaces between games which has such a huge potential for a good movie adaptation. Also it could serve to expose more people to the game's universe and may even lead to sales.
I also think the only way we will get marginally decent video game movies publishers need to take the same approach as Marvel in recent years which has seen the entire comic book film genre being revitalized after nearly being killed by crappy movies like Superman returns, Spiderman and Fantastic 4.
If Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed movie turns out to be good I think we will finally see this shift.
People thought another Batman movie would blow ..... it didn't, so a 'reinvention' could be awesome. I'll reserve judgment until I at least see a trailer. And then even if it is a bit sucky, I'll probably watch it because I'm such a huge Lara fan.

Yeah, but Batman wasn't directly based off of a videogame, so it wasn't technically a game-to-movie adaptation.
As for me, meh. I remain cynical about these things until proven wrong. I've burnt my tongue on these things too often. I'm not even very optimistic for the new Tomb Raider videogame.![]()
Ill just go watch it with low expectation. Just a sexy women running around shooting things![]()
I really liked the Tomb Raider movies, call me a fan girl if you wish. They really weren't bad. What was anyone expecting? It's not like the games have magnificent story lines and intricate characters. It's just Lara Croft exploring tombs. So as an adaptation, I say it succeeded. Can't believe that's Emma Watson in the pic though. But I think for an origin story they should use someone that's not famous.
I think Olivia Wilde could be a good Lara Croft. She amazingly hot and can also be taken seriously in an action role. I hope they don't make her a teenager with anger issues :P
