Hell man, even my wife has leveled SEVERAL characters to cap in the space of a month. And that while only playing 2 hours per day!

Holy crap!! If that is right, then they've made leveling easier than I thought. It used to take a fairly dedicated player several months to get to the level cap.

Well... no. Your mind may have exaggerated that time scale quite a bit with time having passed.

As a sidenote... you might even find something on it still somewhere through Google searches...
Back in Vanilla days, I was the hunter who made "front page" on the forums by leveling a new hunter 1-60, in a little touch over 4 days /Played time.

    Naked.
    Yeah, you heard me.
    Naked.
No gear allowed, exception of bow/gun/xbow and ammo.

It was still extremely possible to level a brand new character to 60 back in Vanilla within 2-3 weeks if you really wanted to.

EDIT-in PS: Not "Juffowup" from the "Naked Troll Project", btw. He was first to do it, I merely got challenged to do the same in a "reasonable" amount of time.

I shall go and have a firm discussion with my mind right now about it's tendency to exaggerate things. This is not acceptable

On the other hand - that was pretty much based on what I heard from friends of mine who played the game themselves - I've never managed to gain much of an interest in World of Warcraft. So I blame them for my misconception
