Thread: Your help wanted

  1. #1

    Default Your help wanted

I need a laptop, and I need it before the end of the month. I'd probably choose something because it looks pretty , so I'm turning to you for help. I need to line up a few options. I need to know the pros and cons of what you've chosen (and links so I can see what you're talking about). I need to know where I should get it from. I really do need to get it before the end of the month.

    What am I looking for?
    A laptop.
In the region of R10 000.
It will be used for work. Documents, email and Internet.
I'm not much of a game player, before you ask. I don't think Tetris needs sophisticated hardware/software
    wifi, bluetooth, etc etc -enabled.
    Probably a long warranty period.
    CD/DVD writer.

What would I like in a laptop?
A clear, decent-sized screen. I tend to never print and read everything off the screen. There's a lot of reading in my job.
    Longer-lasting battery.
A keyboard that's nice to type on (if that makes sense).
Fast (or whatever is inside to make it fast; my current work laptop makes me scream in frustration)
Not too big or heavy, as I'll have to carry it around.
    Preferably black and nice-looking

Ask me any questions that'll help you to help me, and I'll answer them and update here too

I've been waiting for someone to reply to this. It's a difficult choice. I'll see if I maybe have some time tonight to have a look at what's currently available at online stores.

This is one that's been recommended, that I think I quite like (need to see/touch it still, though): http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/za/en...4-3956816.html

    Thanks, Solitude

    Hey Ava.

Listen i recently bough a laptop for R7999 for exactly that purpose. Its a Dell Vostro A860. Not a bad laptop has nice 15.4" HD LCD display, wireless lan, bluetooth, normal lan and SD card reader. The nice thing is it doesn't, like many other laptops, come preloaded with a bunch of crap. Just stock standard vista business pro. For work i find it perfect as its light and compact, only thing is its a little long, thnx u wide screen, so if your looking for a backpack carry case make sure it fits but if its a normal sling carry case u should be fine. Ill see if i have a link. Since your a lady i wont bog you down with tech spec's. For work, word prepossessing, spreadsheets, internet, pdf's that sorta thing its more than enough.

Yes Ava, i would go for a Dell if i was you. I own an XPS but they are a bit pricy. and if you looking for something purdy go for the Dell Studio they are well priced for what they offer.
