Is the warranty not with HP? Never thought of that. Who is the warranty with - the reseller or the manufacturer?

Not sure but even if it is with the manufacturer that means sending it away to be fixed and that could take along time. If its with the supplier and there problem is serious enough they should just swap it out.

I would recommend a Dell, either the new Vostro range or their Latitude series, which is specifically business-orientated laptops. The Inspirons are very nice and then the precision are more workstations (i.e. work horses).

Each of the series are for different means, the Vostro's have latest tech and very mobile and they recycle the models quickly, the same with the Inspirons, but with a bit different build quality. The Latitudes are more solid builds with established Tech to last for years. The drop tests they perform on Latitudes during manufacturing is mind-blowing.

All the Dell laptops are very good build-quality and you have an option of 1-3 years warranty and even more. Dell Support technicians also come to you, when you have a problem, after phoning them, if they cannot assist you telephonically. You don't go to them. This is a big plus for me. You can buy additional warranties too, like Accident / Complete Care, which basically covers anything that happens to the laptop. Even if you accidentally spilled coffee out on it.

As a testament of their support - On my current laptop, I had a problem with my gfx card, they could not fix it, and replaced the whole laptop, after several hardware replaces, gfx card, mobo, lcd, etc.

After sales support and warranty is very important for me, being a laptop user myself. I use mine for everything, even gaming.

I do not like HP or their desktops / servers / laptops. Their Support and Service truly blows (in CT at least) I despise whenever I have to take anything somewhere and stand in queues where people think they are doing YOU a favor. That's what I like about Dell. They come to you to fix it.
You being in JHB is good too, since Dell is based in JHB anyway.

I will do some specs for you based on your requirements and send it to you. They are also fairly well priced, especially for 10K, you can get a very decent laptop.
What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

I'm based on Jhb until Sunday. Then it's off to CT for a few months. I'll have to be able to get any repairs etc done in CT, unless I can do it on one of my trips back (doubtful).

Of the ones I've seen, I do like the HP Pavilion dv6-1125EI and the HP Pavilion dv6-1130EI the most. Almost completely decided on those. Haven't seen the Dell Vostro/Latitude range, though.

Would appreciate the help, lilDeath, but I do need to buy it by Wednesday/Thursday, and still have to send in quotes for approval. The sooner, the better. Thanks!
