Thread: Getting started with multiplayer

    Default Getting started with multiplayer

So, this weekend I thought I'd give this online multiplayer scene a go with all this hype around the release of BF3 and MW3. I finished Portal 2 and played some Duke Nukem Forever (which was actually not bad at all... not being sarcastic) and then I dished out an old copy of Modern Warfare 2 that I had bought on special about a year ago.

I tried joining a game, but when I open the multiplayer portion and open the list of games / servers, there are nothing listed to join.
Is MW2 even still being played? Or must I do something specific in order to see the games to join. I'm totally clueless here. Haven't played this kind of game in multiplayer since Delta Force so advice will be welcome.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

    hi Viper

You'll be lucky to find a game for MW2. I do know there are some games running still, but very little. Best you can join is the select Team Deathmatch. then wait for it to search and find a game. Once its starts searching for games >150 ping, close the lobby and rejoin a TDM game. I played about a week ago and waited about +-10 min at some stages to get a game, but i did find a couple of games.

It depends, there's actually still quite a few people playing (until 08/11 :P) just depends on what time you choose to play and your luck that day.. I still play every now and then and sometimes i get games immediately, or as PaPaRazz! says 10 min. Just choose to play during normal gaming hours like 7-8pm+ and it should be fine :P

yup just depends on the luck of the day, some days gets packed but as Anon says happens between 7-8pm mostly.

Gaming online is the best way to go these days as long as the game has an SA server its pretty fun. Even some international servers are not bad, I play a bit of lol EU(league of legends) and my latency is never much to complain about, can still beat a full team of international players vs full team of SA players

Thanks... I'll try and give it a go this weekend... between 7 and 8. If I like it, I might even consider getting one of the newer games. (except maybe not wait a year or two to play it)

yeah, like others have said, there are some people still playing MW2, but not too many. Sometimes you can sit forever waiting for a game. BlackOps is no problem.

I suggest you buy MW3... or BF3. Its worth buying a new game, if only for the multiplayer.

Is there a big difference between BF3 and MW3 (besides being different games )? What features or advantages does one have over the other?

LOL, this is a can of worms. There is quite a difference, and its a HUGE thing with gamers. Some people are super hardcore about BF3, some are more keen on MW3. Its all personal preference.

Google "MW3 vs BF3". There'll be a kakload of stuff. And it'll be full of people bashing down each game.

My opinion, is they're both awesome games, so get both! Although, I prefer the COD's for a more casual game, plus I can split screen it online with a mate. BF3 is more tactical, which is also super cool.
