Default Is it worth getting Dark Souls?

I'm not really a hardcore gamer. I usually play games on medium/normal. Anyway Dark Souls has been getting great reviews and I wanted to know if you think it would be too hard for me? Is it IMPOSSIBLE to play or just difficult?

    Don't get it :P

Maybe wait for Skyrim. You may get more fun out of that.

I've seen grown men break into mental meltdown over DS...
It really is the treasure of all games if you're hardcore about your play experiences. There is NO handholding or assistance in DS. At all.
If you don't like it rough, this one will not appeal to you at all. Rather it will just infuriate you every other second.

Must say, +1 for all comment above.

I bought it and it is on the shelve for the moment...just a bit too frustrating and got other games to play which is easier and just as much fun!

I just want to get DS to test my gaming ability, see how well I would do. I'm also thrilled about Skyrim but it looks a bit over done.

What do you mean it is over done? It is the kind of quality we have come to expect from the Elder Scrolls series

I think its just the way the game gets marketed, "DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAAGGGGOOOONNNNNSSS!!! PEW!".

Anyway, on topic. Demon's Souls/Dark Souls is a lot more testing of your patience than most other games, but its not that hard. You make a mistake, you are punished, simple as that. The gameplay is "slow", very deliberate and weighty so you don't need twitch reactions.

I say go for it, once you get into it and its old school style of risk/reward/punishment, its very hard to put down.

What do you mean, over done?

I got 20min hands on time with Skyrim at Eurogamer Expo back in Sept and I was blown away. The attention to detail, improved combat and sheer scope of the world is going to make it the definitive RPG this year.
