Thing is with EVE, anyone can kill anyone... Say I've been playing for 3 years, a guy whos been playing for 4 months can kill me

The only upper hand I have is more advanced weaponry/ships/shields thanks to the 3 years of training I've done. Training is done in real time, so if it says it'll take 8weeks 5days 8hours and 2minutes... it will. Training works on SP (skill points) the more you train the higher your skill points.

Thats also how clones work (when you die, which you will you'll get cloned back to where you bought your clone, when purchasing a clone, the more SP you have the more expensive it is... and theres insurance for your ship, and an ingame stock market monitored by actual economists... tis MASSIVE

/Sorry for the derail, I'll stop now

Ive read about Eve and i must say its the only MMO which has my attention. The only reason i haven't committed is because of the Badwith issues here in SA. How is the lag and combat, real time or what and what happens if a guy from 3 month kills a guy from 3 years does he get lots of xp or something?

I've always been fan of space combat and trading sims. Elite, Privateer, Wing Commander, Freelancer, Freespace. I would love to get into this, but I don't have time.

    EVE is the greatest game!
    EVE plays itself!!
I could do this all day!!!

But jokes aside, EVE is a good game for those that can put up with its way of doings things. But as Oculate mentioned, you will spend the first few months just waiting on skills to train before you can really do anything.

For me the pace, setting and progression just felt so so SO boring! I consider myself having a LOT of patience for games in general, but this game made induced episodes of narcolepsy for me.

But again I state it IS a GOOD game for people that enjoy what it has to offer, but there's little middle ground in this between the Love and Hate.

*I had some miner friends and I have NO idea how they enjoyed mining as much as they did*

I played it on the side (when managing skills) while playing WoW

Its a game where you can constantly train skills, and whats great is before going to work, you can assign a new skill/rank to train and get back in the evening and its done... it doesn't require as much focus as other MMO's

    Google EveMon

I have it running at work, it beeps at me when a skill is done, and allows you to pick an advanced skill (for example Titans), and it will then work out what skills I need, what ranks and how long it will take (8months from scratch just to fly it LOL)...

Thats one of the things i like. You dont have to actually be connected to the game to train so no need to spend Weeks grinding to get certain training done. Let it train in the back ground and do something else. Ill try it out and see.

    Money does become an issue

Tech 1 skills cost 5,000 ISK - 800,000 ISK, the tech 2 (or Advanced skills) cost 3mil for the basic 1s
