Help: BSOD when idle but not gaming wierd.

Hey, I built a pc for around 7 months now but the pc has giving BSOD ever since I built it. Weird thing I notice is that it only BSOD when Idle or watch movies. Also Nvidia drivers also keeps on crashing. Drivers for graphics card is always up to date and formated pc like 7 times already. Any advice shall be appreciated or else I'll send it to ikonic or prophecy to check it out.

Left it for so long due to busy varsity schedule. Also temps are as follows CPU -+40C idle and GPU +- 30C

PC Spec:
i7 950
Nvidia GTX560 Ti
12Gb Ram
850W power Supply

not really bud BSOD's are mainly caused by 2 things a driver (this is the reason 7 out of 10 time's) and power seeing as you have sufficient power im going to say check drivers.
Also check windows updates that may have DL

As venom said it could be drivers.
I had the exact same problem on a older amd machine and it turned out it was the cpu.
So if possible try using a mate's cpu and then check if it does the same.

Also pc error fixing is a business of trial and error. So maybe swop out ram, cpu, gpu and the psu.

Nameles ive only had this type of problem once. Im not sure if it is the exact same 1 you have .

My pc crashed only when watching movies or left alone for a bit.

It turned out to be a corrupted file in the system 32 as it happened when my screen saver wen on or my pc tried to enter sleep mode. had to re install to fix it.

See what happens is this. Your machine is made for gaming, and when not gaming (idle) it get's upset. It strips it's moer and goois a tantrum because it wants to render beautiful pixels and polygons.

Damn gaming pc's and their tenacity! I wonder how it would feel if I removed it's graphics card... Muhahahahah!

Really could anything. I would try drivers first. Are any of the parts secondhand?

I had that problem also, turned out to be a faulty GPU causing the errors.

As for BSOD, it occurs over many factors. It you manage to see the screen dump it usually gives you some clues.

Firstly check you ram, usually a common cause for BSOD.

If your drivers are upto date, you shouldnt have a problem, but if this is the case. I would suggest formating the PC leaving all the drivers with the stock stuff windows gives and then install one driver at a time to see if one of then is the cause. Thats also if the BSOD is currently frequent enough then this approach can work, but is time consuming.

If the drivers pass, then its the rest of your hardware this is the tricky part specially if you dont have parts to test with... Test each part individually. As if you can test the voltages on your PSU o make sure then are correct.

In some rare occassions the bios on yout motherboard may need to be updated, sometimes thier are conflicts with GPUS and CPUS not working correctly until bios is updated. Check your motherboard manufactorers website and see if their are any bios updates that resolve cpu micro conflicts or GPU rejection.

I would format reinstall first before swapping out stuff.

Thats probably the quickest way of ruling out software.

Then start with the hardware if it persists.
