The biggest problem with UT is that all the games were basically the same. I mean look at UT2003 and then UT2004. It made me a bit angry since I just bought 2003 and then they came out with 2004. Yet the differences in the games weren't that great.

I haven't played UT3 though.

the differences were the versions of the unreal engine that was used. With UT 2003 epic used the initial version of the UE2 engine and UT 2004 made use of the heavily updated unreal engine 2.5.

They finally realised what ID realized after quake 3. MP only games like this just dont sell as good as back in the day. Battle Field is even going this route as proven by BF Bad Company and the up coming BF BC2. Today if you want you MP only game to take off it needs a real edge over games like COD or BF2:PR.

I can go on and on the mistakes made with UT3, but that'll take a day or two...

I agree to this comepletely. All the UT games were brilliant. I played UT2004 Singleplayer every day of my life for many hours. I loved it.

UT3 is just bleh. To me it just didn't have any lasting appeal, it did not keep me entertained. Even big lans I attended, we were playing UT2004 much more than UT3, and this even after the recent titan pack and patch.

I have read some forums, and many ppl attributed one of the major failures of the game due to The maps themselves. many users complained that they were to bland, or specially designed to show off the Graphics and deprived the game of the "fun factor". Seeing that alot of servers run only the stock maps, this was a huge cause of the lameness.

To me I dunno. I think it was more of the same, just with updated graphics, sound and physics. More of the same can sometimes be a good thing, but in this instance it counted against the game.

Strange thing though that made me LOL, and this to me was the nail in the coffin.

I had a friend that used to LOVE the First Unreal Tournament. It's the only game he used to play and was even considdering the U symbol as a Tatoo LOL. Anycase, he got outta gaming for a very long time, and he played UT3 on my pc at a lan, and afterwards played UT2004 and loved 2004 much more.
Same with his mate that was with him.

So what I did, my own little experiment. Got a couple of "casuals" and had them play UT3 at one of the lans, then afterwards UT2004, then asked them wich one they prefer.

Every single one of them Said UT3 for the graphics (LOL Typical) but they Liked UT2004 more cause it was way more fun and addictive.

I rest my case.

Myne has been Deck. I've loved every itteration of it since the original Deck in Unreal.

I actually saw some okes lanning Unreal the other day again.

I bow to their awesomeness and wish some of my stupid mates would relive the awesome legends with me again.
