    I remember Morrowind was a single CD game that had tons of content and a massive world for its time. I guess the Skyrim developers have must have a really optimized engine engine.

    does it have anything to do with the game being dx9?

    I would imagine if it was dx11 then it would be huge!?

    Not necessarily. The DirectX 11 patch for Crysis 2 was only about 1gb. Doubt it would even have been that much bigger.
