Consoles will never go modular. With respect to major components. They're designed to have a life span of 4-6 years. And the idea of a console is uniform compatibility. If we could suddenly start modding this, that and the other then that creates a whole lot of complications. A lot of PC gamers switch to consoles so they can get away from the varied configurations one may obtain.

When everything is on the cloud there will be no gaming PC's or consoles.

Consoles were modular back in the day. you could upgrade your 32 bit system to a 64 bit with a cartridge.

I agree, they will never be modular.

    The reasons are:
    1) Cost. Modularity is not cheap. Look at modular PSUs. Console makers want rock bottom costs on consoles so that they can sell lots of consoles and thus lots of software (which is where the money is).
    2) Development cost. Much simpler for console manufacturers to not have to worry about whether someone's modular console has got a better or a worse GPU or whatever. Thats exactly why developing for PCs is sometimes a headache.

Also, yeah in other news water is wet. Moden PCs are more powerful than 6 year old consoles? Say it aint so.

Yoh dude, fat +1 from me. Been wondering the exact same thing. It's almost like the older they get, the more immature they become. Biglol

Yep, OnLive is just the tip of the ice-berg. In a few years systems like Onlive will be ontop (In the 1st world countries anyways.)
