Deadlight is a zombie game. A puzzle platformer of sorts. You will be killing some zombies but the gameplay is more about figuring out how to move from screen to screen. It looks great and has some really good atmosphere. The story isn't too bad either.

However the game got progressively more difficult and towards the end you try something then it fails, press button to reload and do it all over again. I wish there wasn't instant death. See the main character can't swim, so if you land in water then you are dead. And the controls aren't very responsive at all. I'm not even going to talk about the illogical ending.

The game had such potential. The art direction is great. I can see what the creators wanted to achieve. They fell short though. It's still worth the play if you own it. It was one of the free XBox Live Games with Gold games.

Hey Solitude I just finished the game and tend to agree with you on most points. The atmosphere is great, the story was interesting as well despite the dialogue lines being a bit iffy. The cheap deaths were annoying, there was one point near the end where I had to sprint through a collapsing building that was a true exercise in frustration due to bugginess and unresponsive controls. This became especially prevalent in the last stages of the game, rather than challenging it became frustrating. Funny enough I noticed that Jordan Mechner (of Prince of Persia fame) was one of those mentioned in the Special Thanks part of the credits, in many ways the annoying movement and jumping in the game reminded me of the original PoP!

Regarding the ending, see spoiler (and for those who haven't played it, it really is a spoiler)

Spoiler: show
I thought the ending was actually quite good, very sad really. The one illogical seeming part was I wondered why Randall didn't jump through the hole to get to the boat as well but then I was reminded of the fact that he couldn't swim!

Verdict: Despite the flaws its worth a play for the atmosphere and (when it works) the gameplay is quite fun
