The 3DS however does not support online gaming, favouring a StreetPass system where users can game against other 3DS users in the vicinity. While this may work in crowded cities where there are multiple 3DS users on the same train or in the same apartment block, South Africa might not be able to benefit from this fully.
Not true. With games like Street Fighter IV, you can connect to the internet via Wi-FI and play against other players around the world. Tried it out a few minutes ago. Not giving lip, just helping the article. Mario Kart 7 will also sport online play.
    That's what she said.

Derrick is being flailed as I type this; I draw strength from his anguished cries. Also; the article is being updated

It's true, James seems to like handing out pain.

Thanks for the heads up TheAvenged87, not sure where I got the original info, I wrote the article a fair while back so will need to dig up the original source and DDoS them as punishment (James won't lend me the flail so I have no other choice).

Nintendo's handheld consoles have always (and always will be) more successful than the PSP because they treat it as an entirely new system - not as an extension of something else. Face it: the PSP was essentially a portable PS2. It offered nothing unique (except UMD's) and very little was done to create games around the console. Most games are mere ports or replicas of the home console versions.

The DS outsold the PSP because it offered an entirely new way to play. Games were designed around the dual screens/touch screen and the innovations (and the great price tag) is key to it's success.

With this said the PS Vita finally steps out and does something unique; adding GPS, 3G and the touchpad underneath the console will greatly benefit the console IF developers make proper use of it. I'm keen to see how things turn out for the PS Vita but I think we all know that the 3DS will still dominate the handheld market.

"The PSVita is more powerful, and will thus have a longer lifespan..."

The PSP was more powerful than the DS and this did not hold true. In the end, it came down to the creativity of the developers and quality of games. I think it would be interesting to write a followup article a year from now, to see how events play out.

This is true the PSP however popular had the worst line up of games there we some unique ones in the mix but mostly nothing that made use of machine as it was and it was a bit sad. I owned a few i know... THe PSP VIta on the other hand has some impressive games lined up and not a just a few titles and getting its own unique expierence... So Hopefully we will see some competition from Sony on this front...

Agreed a follow up article next year around this time or half 6 months after global launch should give u a better eeling of how this compared to the 3DS

(Quoting you guys so that I don't have to re-mention all the points that you guys already wrote)
As far as the features go, the PS Vita sounds more like a smartphone than anything else. When I switch the 3DS on, I know that I am not dealing with a smartphone/tablet anymore and that this thing is built for playing games.
