    Default More Help Needed

    Hello,

Ok, so I managed to install another HDD this weekend in my project pc, and that went well, I got 2 x 2gb DDR2 ram from my father this weekend but when I put them in the pc turns on but the screen will not turn on, but I will post pics and specs on the ram tomorrow,

So my question for today is, seeing the computer was a old work machine, how would I go about giving myself full Administrative rights on the PC cause there are certain things it will not let me change or delete?
    The OS is Windows XP

    Thanks

When you turn on the pc and get to the log-on screen, does it have a third option below username/password called Domain ?
Or is it the normal WinXP log-on screen where you can click on a username icon ?

What you need to do is try logging on with Administrator, try password as password or blank or whatever. If not, you will need a password reset tool like Hirens BootCD.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice and it should bring up the old school login. Just try logging on with the username as Administrator, and password blank. If that doesn't work..

Then this works. We use it quite a lot for idiots that never give us their passwords when they want us to fix their PC.

Hirens cd is brilliant. So many great tools in a little package. Use it often.

So ja I have decided to stop wasting my time and money on this piece of crap, I am basically going to have to replace every part of this machine if I want to end up with some thing that even resembles a PC LOL,

So my new plan is just to keep my eyes open for when a well prieced bundle comes up for sale and then I can just take it from there and hopfilly I will be able to build some thing semi decent that way.

Just thought I would give you all an update and thank you for all the advice so far

I would like to learn first how to build and put a PC together and learn how to set it up and get it running, and budget allowing I would like to have a entry leval machine to take to LANS

Well the office pc is ideal for learning all of that without causing issues when something doesn't work the first time around.

Perhaps not the best for a lan environment though, unless you want to play solitaire.

Why, you are learning some decent trouble shooting skill

Many PC's dont work the first time they build. You wilk get the best knowledge from building and troubleshooting a broken PC.

And you can practice replacing a CPU which can be scary as it is delicate.
