Thread: Why I like [PROTOTYPE]

    Default Why I like [PROTOTYPE]

Prototype has been quite a lot of fun to play for the following reasons:
    - You can hijack tanks
    - You can hijack helicopters
    - You can throw tanks at helicopters (you can actually throw just about anything at any target)
    - You can karate-kick helicopters (or tanks)
    - You can run up walls
    - You can jump from the tallest sky-scrapers without killing yourself
    - You can "consume" people in the most creative ways
    - You can kill, crush and destroy just about everything in the game world

    ...pity there's no multiplayer

Too bad it got all repetitive too quickly.
inFamous was enough sandbox game for me and I'm sure if Prototype came up first I'd have been more interested but it couldn't keep my attention for more than a few minutes.

Totally agree with you man, Prototype is one awesome game! I finished Prototype 4 times in a row, I could not stop playing this game. Sure it gets repetitive, but what's wrong with repeating something awesome over and over again? I tried playing inFamous, but gave up after a couple of hours. (I kept dying from 2 shots and I cannot understand how you're supposed to be a superhero but you die from 2 gunshots.) Although I will admit that inFamous is a very good game, the graphics and story are great, but it's just to damn frustrating.

    inFamous story alone pawns Prototype.
As for repetitveness, sandbox games will ALWAYS suffer from it and I, personally, hate it!
They're actually different when you come to think about it, both games have different feels. Oh and about dying by bullets, how is that Mr. Mercer is not able to outrun a tanks shots and getting killed by a soldier with a rocket launcher. Cole just discovers his powers at the beginning of the game hence the weakness, all you gotta do is by the less damage upgrade 1st
No super hero can be all powerful, the game wouldn't be fun otherwise.

I actually had all 3 of the less damage upgrades and I still kept on dying. But I agree with you, these are two very different games. Both are awesome too, I just hate dying the whole time and retrying a mission a hundred times, it gets frustrating after a while and games are supposed to relieve stress, not cause it.

Totally agree there. I played prototype at a friends place for all of 10min and quit, I really dont dig the open world sandbox type games. I find them way to boring and repetitive.
Farcry 2 is a prime example and which is why it failed imo.
Oblivion was awesome for the first few gates you close and then it gets to repetitive.
I'll probably get shot for saying this, but I feel the same way about Fallout 3, after escaping the Vault and doing a few missions it gets all too familiar..

Maybe it's just me but it's difficult to find games that really hook me these days. The last one was probably FEAR2. I'd say what I look for in a game is Gameplay -> Story -> Graphics

I agree I've been watching my girl play PROTOTYPE and it just looks like she's doing the same missions over and over...

I would've liked it if you could do a bit more in the city... a bit more side missions that requires interaction with civilians...

Something like that just to spice the boredom up a bit.

    /Shoots fayainz in the head.
    JK.

I've been playing Prototype for a few weeks on and off now. (eve has taken over now however) It did fall into the same pit as all the other open world/sandbox games out there. Sacrifices where made that hurt the game in the long rung.

Far Cry, Oblivion (not so much coz there where millions of things to do just the main story line missions sucked), GTA IV and to a certain extent F3 (but not enough to knock it off my no 2 fav game ever list)

I think the problem comes in when u take into account each mission has to be writen, then it has to be edited so that it fits in with the overall fiction and plot of the game. (Giving you a mission to help old lady's over the street in GTA IV would not have worked as it went against the character) Then once its found its place in the game plot and game world it needs to be coded, debugged and recoded. So Designer/Programmers/Studio's or Publishers (Blame who ever u want) opts for the same task as it reduced alot of the basic grunt work. We would all love to see hundreds of unique missions/quests but for now anyways i don't see it happening. Not unless some one creates a quest generation tool that works the same as Borderlands content generation tool that can generate billions of guns.

That's a shame. Fallout 3 actually has a rather good story, and instead of the usual rollout of fetch quests, the side missions managed to fit into the greater narrative context quite well.
