Too much hype around this, it's going to let a lot of people down ..... 7 years? Seriously? I reckon it's going to be another polished turd like DNF. Dated shit.

It really would be madness to stop after all that time.
Here is a comparison. My team and i have been busy with a mod for stalker : shadow of chernobyl called "Lost Alpha"
we have been working on it for four years now and it is bigger than shadow of chernobyl in size, scale and content and even though we are not sure if we will be allowed to release it theres no way in hell we would give in and not finish it.
My scripts dont crash, they just....ctd - barin

That's not correct afaik, 3D Realms were the only people to ever work on DNF until they closed and Gearbox took over. Even then all they did was basically made it 'ready for release' and push it out largely untouched.

The difference is this is a mod. DNF was a fully-fledged game. The Black Mesa team have been working on this MOD themselves for seven years now. Besides that, it's based off the Source engine that powered Half-Life 2. An engine, I might add, which was used in Portal 2 earlier this year. If anybody wants to complain that the technology a MOD is based on is dated, they really need to have their shit checked.

The entire point of Black Mesa is to recreate Half-Life 1 using the Source engine, not create a whole new game. Anybody who expects more from a team of MODDERS (not developers) should just continue simmering in their ignorance.

Also, it's not as if these guys are getting paid to develop the mod. They're doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

I'm over getting excited for this mod, when or if it eventually sees the light of day I will definitely play it, but for now I will set my sights on games with more concrete release dates.

Yeah they are not getting paid by anyone. I don't actually blame them for taking so long. How much time it must take on the side.

Indeed, and Half-Life wasn't exactly the shortest game ever. It takes time having to reconstruct the game from scratch, section by section.

I just hope that the mod does get released some day.
