lol... Thank you, but don't worry about it. I'm annoyed but not as much as I'm making out I'm just being a drama queen.

I'm mostly just surprised (really) that it can be so completely awful. I mean, this is the first time I've ever used it and in the time frame of 24-hours I've had nothing but grief from it.

I would've thought that EA would be a lot more careful about releasing exclusive AAA titles on such an unstable platform. But they've done it with Battlefield 3 and they're doing it again with Mass Effect 3.

Battlefield 3 folk seem pretty ticked and Mass Effect 3 folk are unlikely to be exempt from the frustration.

Why do this? It's only going to backfire in EA's face. Why didn't they just release games in the same way as they released Amalur: retail through Origin and a separate digital distribution option via Steam? At least that way we aren't FORCED to put up with it.

    Oh well...

Origin is officially on the same shitlist as Uplay, Ubisoft, Securom, GFWL and Tages.

That's a pretty big achievement right there

Let's see, I started this nonsense two hours and 40-odd minutes ago. Let's just make it a solid three hours.

Three hours later, it finally authenticated/activated ME2.

It took a day for me to finally be able to play the damn game, but I CAN FINALLY PLAY IT WITHOUT A DISC IN THE DRIVE!

    WOOHOO!

    *minor victory*

Finally got a response from EA too:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us about this problem. I understand completely the frustrations involved with this and I am here to assist you. At this time we are having an issue with the server for Origin, once this is resolved, you should be able to load the game without a hitch. I apologize for not having a time frame for when the server issue will be resolved but I am going to provide you a discount code for Origin for the trouble.

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts,

    He then closed my ticket

SEE IF I THANK YOU, MEANIEHEAD! *cry*

So far its going for me but its slower (downloads and overall performance compared to steam). Certainly don't like it , not quite in the extreme hate list like gfwl thought.

Lol, it sounds like every time someone submits a ticket, EA support gives them a discount code. Lol.

Unlike with DICE and Bioware, 38 Studios is not owned by EA, EA is just their publishing partner. As such they managed to negotiate a deal themselves with Valve to get it up on Steam.

lol... Is that what that is? I thought it was just a reference number for the ticket. Anyone who wants it can have it. I will never by anything through Origin. (Here's hoping DLC for ME3 won't need to be purchased through Origin).

So, yeah, I just wanted to install Mass Effect 2 through Origin to avoid having to use the disc to start the game.. Didn't go so well..

While downloading it I also decided to install it from the disc, so I could play while I was waiting. I'd then reinstall whenever it finished downloading.
Origin's download speeds are pretty horrible, so I had to have something to do while waiting.

Now, I've set Origin to keep game installers, just in case something goes wrong, which I kinda expected would happen.

While playing, Origin apparently finished downloading and supposedly also finished installing ME2.
Turns out it just saw that the game was already installed and didn't bother installing into the Origin directory.
And launching the game through Origin made it complain about a missing disc..

I had kind of expected that to happen though, which is why I ticked the option to keep installers. But look at that, the installers directory is completely empty.

So, it seems it downloaded the installer, saw it was already installed and then deleted the friggin' installer again Argh!

    So frustrating...

And that's one of the many problems with a program that only downloads installers.

You would've thought EA would have taken a moment to learn what made Steam the best of its kind and emulated it.

Instead, Origin is the biggest load of shit ever.
