Default Cracking / Patching Games (Dont delete or lock me :D)

Ok i just ran across Andy's post, and in all sincerety, I dont think his question was correctly phrased.

I own two pc's at home, and for example, instead of inserting the disc into each computer when i want to play LAN, is it completely wrong to install a No-CD patch?

I mean my games are completely original, but is it really fair to have to buy two copies of the same game to play LAN at home?

Yes, by law it is required that each game should only be installed and played on one PC, and i can understand how people do go overboard at LAN events and what not. But then again, by law you are allowed one legal backup.

So my question is, is it completely wrong to install the game on two computers at home and LAN it?

i did lay down the ABC's in that thread, and yes you should buy the game for each pc that is going to use it. that is what i have to do anyways between myself and my wife unless the game allows for multiple installs on different pc's like mass effect.

Fact is if the game is protected like Necuno said, and it can only install once on a pc and you have to activate it online etc.Means that game will only work with one cd-key and will have to be deactivated online before it can be installed again(Alone in the Dark)etc.

But if the game can multiple install on dif machines using a NO-CD inside your home I don't think it will get you into any major problems with the law.Piracy is a problem sure, but you aren't pirating the software and the distributing it.Thats the main problem with piracy.Illegal distribution, not some dude wanting to lan with his wife on 2 pcs they own.Piracy is bound to the copywrite law,so if you copy it and make a profit on someone elses property, then you are a pirate.

Legally, it's wrong. But, morally it's acceptable. I won't hold anything against you.

I dont have a problem with nocd cracks (i downloaded nocd cracks for most of my games) as it saves you alot of time with looking for discs and the discs and your dvd drive will last longer as it will be used less !

I have a question along the same lines, except concerning Xbox 360 instead of PC. Let's say I have this friend, right, who has this brother. They both have Xbox 360 consoles. One is chipped. They have a legit copy of Gears of War. They love playing split screen co-op but would prefer to each have their own TV. Would it be wrong for them to make a backup of Gears of War and then play via system link?

The back-up copy for games is acceptable,as long as you don't sell it or distribute it.But with Xbox360,chipping the console is already illegal, this violates the standerd usage terms of the 360.

If its only for personal use I have no problem with it.

On the backup copy, your legally allowed to make a copy for personal use. That's one of the main reasons why things like daemon tools are legal.

Ok well as far as i know the common rule globally is that you do not ask or chat about cracking and patching games on forums due to the simple fact that alot of people and even some Admins consider it as a form of Piracy.

Yeh it may not be piracy when u have the original game and all that but how does the person against piracy know this... Hell i have alot of my original games cracked and even the ones not installed i make sure i keep a crack for them as I do not want to damage my disks... the comp that I won recently with the Company of Heroes Anthology pack... I installed the game and shortly afterwards I cracked it and put the disks away in a safe place

Oh and Yeh there is a big problem with Lans as well... however a crack/patch is the best possible solution to Disk protection from scratches and damages etc...
