    Exclamation The Darkness 2 Demo

Downloaded it on Steam and played it in the wee hours of this morning. I'm in love <3

The first game was the reason I bought a PS3 however many years ago that was. So, naturally, I've been rather excited about this one :3

I wasn't completely sure how I'd feel about a new voice actor taking the role of Jackie, and it does sound kind of awkward because I'm still used to Kirk Acevedo's voice, but Brian Bloom does a pretty good job of still "feeling" like Jackie.

I'm clearly getting this one on PC. The only thing that really irked me (and I do mean THE ONLY thing) was that it makes use of auto-targetting when firing your guns. I can't stand that in PC games. I'm not sure if it's possible to turn it off but I really hope that they implement the option at release. However, aside from that, the PC controls are very well-thought out.

Also, the art style, the voice of the Darkness (Mike Patton), the sound, the gore, the darkling, it's all absolutely wonderful

I'm nuts about this series :3

If you haven't tried it yet, or are fence-sitting on this one, get the demo, try it and fall in love

Tried the Xbox demo out along with Kingdom's of Amalur. I loved the original and this one seems to be an improvement over Starbreezes original. I love the new visuals. Will be picking it up on the 10th.

Question though, AFAIK the first one didn't come out on PC... this is the first time yes? And not owning a console I oviously didn't play the first one.... In a sense of story, does it directly continue the first one? If yes then that's pretty lame

I have absolutely no idea which one I'll think was better, but yeah. The new visuals work very well for it.

In the first five seconds I was like, "Meh" but in the first five minutes? Grew to love it

I generally can't stand cel-shading. This is honestly the first game I've come across where it works VERY well with the art style.

Of course there are going to be bits and pieces in the narrative about events in the first game, but no, it's not necessary and the game fills you in on the important bits as you play (like Jenny's death).

If I didn't enjoy the first one, would I enjoy this one?

I found the first one to be a bit boring, so I never finished it... It was too focused on combat and lacked an engaging story imo...

How does this (Granted, it is a demo) compare to the first?

It has now come to my attention that I may be the only person that disliked The Darkness

Couldn't stand the shitty graphics and seemingly endless levels.

Edit: Perhaps not - looks like mister Dude is with me on this one

I enjoyed the narrative in the first game (I generally don't get emotionally involved in a game if it lacks a proper, meaningful and engaging storyline ).

This one is developed by a different studio, the narrative (in the demo, at least) is very prominent.

I'd say that you should probably grab the demo and see what to think for yourself

Combat is wonderful though. Can throw car doors at baddies and slice 'em in half, impale them with pipes and lightposts, knock 'em out with debris, upgrade your abilities, pick 'em up and tear 'em in half <3

    It's all quite enjoyable

As for the story, it seems that a cult of some sort is after Jackie, trying to get him to give up the Darkness (teh supernatshooral entity in him). I can't say where the story is headed or how far it will branch, but it seems pretty interesting so far.
