Hard drive pricing remains high in South Africa

The word from local distributors is that hard drive pricing will remain high for the time being

Just had to bite the bullet last week and forked out 2x more $$$ for my 2TB than I should have had to but when you got no space, you got no space.

Also I read a similar interview by someone from Seagate which said the same thing about HDD prices remaining high for most of the year.

It has come down a lot, from where it was... I think a 2TB is retailing for about R1550 from a month ago at R2300. And so I heard the pricing is decreasing daily... And if I recall at Feb last year a 2TB drive retailed at that price.

What I find absolutely deplorable is the following from the article:
Brunsden said that the effects were worsened by “traders/speculators and big players buying up available supply and making the shortage worse by artificially holding supply off the market, in the expectation that money will be made in the short term. Thus, the actual effect of the supply is made worse by the aftermarket issues"

In other words, suppliers bought stock cheaply and made a killing once the price rocketed. GREED!!!!!!!! Nothing but pure simple GREED at the expense of the consumer. No better than the government in my opinion.
