That seems a bit awkward to me. I am have having my consoles lying flat. More comfortable with them that way in any case. I probably wouldn't go out and spend more money for additions like that.
Thats pretty normal, same was the case for the PS2. Although it the PS2's case it was merely decorative as it didnt need it. The PS3 however requires it to stand up right.
Most user have their consoles laying flat anyways, so maybe for the insane fanboy that needs to own every piece of PS3 merchandise it will be a good buy and for those that possible really need it.
