Why?? Uhm, in my experience it was viable in the begining only when PS3 had no games and your Extensive PS2 library was used to play on the PS3, now PS2 games development is slowly halting, PS3 games are the way to go and if you own a ps2 that will do the job for your PS2 games...

Perhaps crazydude would like to have the assurance that if something were to happen to his PS2, or if he decided to sell it to make a little extra monmey, he would still be able to play his favourite PS2 titles on his PS3.

Yes, plus I prefer having one box to play my games on.

However I do agree with this too. I think that Sony should have kept PS2 compatibility until the slim model. I think maybe it would have helped more with the forward momentum early on.

It's sad to admit but new quality PS2 titles are becoming rarer.

If you really into having PS2 support there are people selling there 60GB models to buy new slim models, maybe you get a bargain they selling for R2500 - R3500, this is a little steep i know for a second hand console but these things are in demand, or better yet get a broken 2nd hand 60GB console most people would give that away and you have it swap out at Partserve for about R2650.

I cant really be bothered about BC, The ps3 library is big enough for you to never care about having to play a PS2 game!

Yeah it depends on the person. I sorta collect(ed) PS2 RPG's and I do not mind playing old'd looking RPG's, so backwards compatibility would be really nice, but not a deal breaker.

I find most RPG fanatics are like me, and are willing to play the old crappy looking games just for the story and gameplay.

Now if only a few more great JRPG's would make their way onto PS3 (well the latest generation consoles in general).
