    Exclamation Need help with insomnia

    Hey guys,

My grandparents are suffering very badly from insomnia and I have been looking for relaxation song/mp3's and have sent it up to them in Jhb, as I am in Dbn, and nothing seems to help. With all the other medication they are on sleeping tablets are not option. If anyone here has some other remedies or suggestions your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanking everyone in advance.

Problem is insomnia is caused by quite a lot of different things like diets, fitness, stress levels etc. So it is a lil difficult to sort it out if the problem isn't identified and then seen to.
contact me if you are in Cape Town and looking for PC Hardware at very competitive pricing. We also do web and graphic design.

Pretty much all you can do. Wouldn't advise medication though.

    I've struggled with insomnia myself...

What I do to overcome this is exercise - uhm yeah. Not too hectic though; I take a jog or jam to some Wii Fit or Your Shape on Kinect.

I can't really recommend this for the elderly so perhaps if they just take a walk in the late afternoon?

If they were to burn themselves out using exercise, it will force their bodies to get into a proper sleep routine. The other thing is for them to read a long boring book.

Causes for insomnia in general are like this:

Smoking, excessive caffeine before bed including sugar. Apparently if you feel hungry in the middle of the night, you should eat an apple with peanut butter on it.

Lights from outside, loud noises, TV's, radios etc... should be switched off at night as well as any other electronics as electric pulses distrub the sleeping pattern of your brain. Have them also get darker curtains, if it is light causing the issue.

Find out what their surroundings are like before bed time in order to distinguish what the problems could be.

So other than what simon said, assess the issue from various angles, don't just assume.

With the aged medication is often the best fit for their particular physical condition. Just beware, don't try and 'jimmy' some exercise regime or nightcap solution for them. Their doc should make any suggestions - you guys should just follow that to your best ability.

Dude, this may look like its come as a sarcastic approach but its not, the green can also be used to help people sleep. The person im renting from does it as he has back problems and he smokes it and it helps him sleep.

    Just a thought.
