A bit.. it (Halo Reach's ending) was, for me, like the mass effect ending was for everyone else.

They might just rewrite bits of the Halo 3 ending... they did it with some of the books after Halo Reach was released.

Finally the Armour now matches more to what I had in my minds eye in the books vs the games. I am impressed in how they smoothly went over to Spartan 4's (Glasslands).

Why exactly? I mean, I played through all the games to date(except anniversary), but I haven't touched Halo 1 since before the 360 launched. So my memory is not all that clear wrt tying Reach up to Halo 1. What continuity inconsistencies are there?

The Events surrounding the fall of reach in the novel The Fall of Reach by Eric Nyland and the events surrounding the fall of reach in Reach dont match. The Pillar of Autum was in combat in Reach's Orbit, Chief and the rest of Blue team where fighting on an orbital platform, where he lost most of his team, the only (barely) surviving member is Linda who is in a stasis tube on the Autumn which the chief reached just before it ( the pillar of autumn) did a blind jump which lead them to Halo & the events of Halo 1. The Pillar of Autum was retro fitted to act as a deep strike craft for the SPARTAN Commandos that was going to go behind the Covenant lines and hit them where it hurts but they (the Covenant) Found Reach before this could happen. Cortana was also specifically designed to work with the Chief in his armour by Dr Halsey. She isn't a standard ship board AI, she is a cyber warefare AI.

There was no heroic last stand on the planet, the covenant glassed it from Space. Like Uberutang said the novel was retconned after the release of Reach. Thus removing any connection between the novel & the games and as such destroying any kind of validity the extended universe held. It was a sad day for Halo Fans.

If you can find a copy of the Novel before they retconned the shit out of it give it a read.

Oh yah I know about the inconsistencies between the novels and the events of the game, but as you said, that has been retconned in the most recent releases.

From a game-only perspective (Reach to Halo 1), I don't see any trouble wrt continuity inconsistencies.

Yeah if you only play the games you are joyfully ignorant and was propably able to enjoy Reach's emotional ending a bit more than those of us who read, and loved, the novels.

Yeah must say it bugged the hell out of me at first, then I went and got a updated copy of the Fall of Reach book and yes, feeling less agro now

First time I got to that bit I was like, wtf, why is the ship in atmosphere?

I despise Retconning, such a cheap way out. I refuse to read the Retconned version on a matter of principle.

I prefer to think the games are more inline over the books. But iether way, very happy to be joyfully ingnorant since I really enjoyed Reach.
