In KOTOR you got 3 different jedi Classes as well...

Guardian - sabre combat specialist (Mace Windu, Obi Wan)
Sentinel - Balanced saber/force user (Qui Gon Jinn)
Consular - Force oriented (Yoda)

I thought Qui Gon was a consular because his sabre was green and coz he was played by Liam Neeson.

There is a reference to saber colour indicating rank, but it turned out being purely cosmetic. Mace Windu has a purple saber after all - and he's a sword master.

I'll check up again though...
