I remember some the first LAN parties I attended.
This was back in the day.... The concept of Ethernet Cables and Switches was still not really main stream!
The best memory I can recall was using a Serial / Parallel Cable to play Duke Nukem 3D! jeez this was a mother to get setup, spent like 3 hours to setup the network before we where able to play!!
Then came 10Base Networks! Running a Coaxial Cable PC to PC to PC with Terminators on the ends!!
Man those where the days! I recall battling to get the network drivers installed onto DOS and still enough available memory for the games to start!!!

I still remember using a program named LAPLink to copy files over the parallel port... oh and did anyone else use their modem to dial another friends number that was waiting for a connection to come through so that you could play against each other over a DIRECT connection :-P The problem with this was that while you were waiting for the other person to connect to your Age of Empires game, It was impossible to know if there had been any problem on your friends side because the phone line was plugged in to your pc and back then we had no cellphones. Good times
