    Default Xcom - Enemy Unknown

This to me is one of the best games ever made. This is probably the only game that I spent more time playing than Doom. I loved building bases and researching captured UFO tech. It was a very challenging game and was also my introduction into turn based strategy gaming.

This game had so many things you had to do well in order to reach the last level. You had to keep the whole world happy, research new tech, build new tech, keep your soldiers alive (the veterans had way more time units) and you had to plan your moves well during missions very well so that your soldiers did not die because you left them in stupid positions before ending your turn.

I recently pissed myself like a little over excitedpuppy when i read that Firaxis is remaking this classic and will be keeping it true to the original !!!

    Hunting aliens early on.

Progressing and getting some aromored suits.

Using the geoscape to plan the location of your next base.

I played XCOM:Apocalypse first <scratches through old games> and then started from the beginning. The switch to "real-time" turn based was pushed quite hard. Was a great game and you sort of grew attached to your squad!:-D <scratches some more in the dark recesses of the garage cupboards>

Have to admit, I have never played any of the X-Com games despite it looking like exactly the type of game I would have loved. Just never got around to it.

I hope the new X-COM is successful enough to make developers sit up and take notice. We need more turn based games for consoles! RTS games on consoles suck.

I remember playing "Terror from the Deep" the first time. I bought the game off a bargain shelf, having loved the first one. I thought this would be more of the same, probably different aliens and different weapons, etc.

I think I had three missions before I finally crashed one of the UFO's over the ocean... that was the first time I realised that I could actually have underwater missions! That blew my mind! Yes, I skipped the intro sequence, guilty as charged...

I promptly restarted my game, planning my base locations better...
