Although Daoc is relatively unknown in the MMO world, it existed before WoW and was my very first MMORPG.Although looking back, a lot of my fondness for the game can be chalked up to the romance period of your first MMORPG.
Where it really shined ( and till this day still has the best Open world PVP Experience ) was in what it called RvR (Realm vs Realm) which was basically open world pvp between 3 different factions.This was achieved due to World Pvp having a Meaningful impact on the whole server, opening special dungeons that yield more gold and power-ups that would benefit the whole server.
The first time I ventured out into RvR the whole of Hibernia(my faction) was called to arms to defend our relic( it gave our faction a 10% magic damage bonus over the others). Midguard was laying down the hurt in our frontier and was taking all our keeps in order to attack our relic and capture it.We all managed to pile into our last remaining keep and desperately defended it.An ordeal that lasted over 2 hours and with our forces wearing dangerously thin, hope came in the form of a brutal rearward attack on the Mids by Albion(the 3rd realm).Obviously the Albs were not about to let Midguard get a SECOND magic dps relic which would push their base damage up to 20 % if they captured our relic.
Much to the screams of Joy and jubilation that could be seen throughout that zones chat , this gave us much needed breathing room in which to resurrect our fallen and rest up for the Charge in to the fray that was taking Place in front of our keep! So we charged into a 3way battle royal, and things got super messy!
Needless to say we repelled the invaders back to their homelands and our relic was safe this night!
Cries about Hib and Alb allianced filled the forums the next day, but died down after a week when we were the ones to rear end the ALB on their attempt on the Physical damage relic that the mids had

It was my first MMORPG as well, and I played since beta till finally retiring end last year because of guild drama issues resulting it to disband in the end (was a gm of Divinity - Ywain). I've played many other mmo's, and none could compare to it for me and always went back. PvP is definitely still the best I've played.
