There's a lot of people still playing UC2's MP, simply because they don't like the changes introduced in UC3's MP.

I'll take a stab at it. I just got my PS3 (my first console ever) and Uncharted 2 is one of the games I got included in the bundle.

D: OMG this is awesome. I don't play the mp anymore but I'd start again, was thinking the other day I want to try it again. I hope this isn't a limited time only though, running a bit short on bandwidth.

Keep in mind that Uncharted2's MP is patched with all the content the moment you start up the MP section of the game(From what I remember anyway...). So they probably only removed any security restrictions in the MP section to check if you've got a valid "key" for the content.
