Well the MK: Komplete Edition is out now, think it was going for R399 at BT. The DC vs MK is ok, but the official MK is much better. Like Xero said, Killzone (awesome, awesome MP as well) and of course the Uncharted series (please do not underestimate how amazing this series is - ok, except the first one ).
But, you're off to a good start there, even though Heavy Rain is depressing beyond belief.

Ok, so this weekend I started playing around a bit on the PS3... Started off with Uncharted 2, then tried a bit of Infamous 2 and then watched the intro of God of War 3.
Quick question... how important is it to play Infamous 1 and God of War 1 & 2? Are they worth getting or are those games a bit dated already?

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Welcome to the Dark Side !

Okay firstly, MUST have titles are:

    1 - Uncharted 1-3
    2 - God of War 1-3
    3 - InFamous 2
    4 - Resistance 3
    5 - Catherine
    6 - Dead Nation (PSN)
    7 - Outland (PSN)
    8 - Demon's Souls/Dark Souls
    9 - Trine 1-2 (PSN)

Uncharted Drake's Fortune (1) is a good game. You can see it was made in the early days of the PS3 therefore some of the controls are crap, but a brilliant story! Uncharted 2, well, if there ever was a game deserving of a perfect score in gaming history it has to be Uncharted 2! Finally, Uncharted 3 is just epic! I recommend you play the trilogy from the beginning as there are key relationships that carry over and a few one-liners that you won't understand unless you played from Drake's Fortune.

If you love blood and guts then this series is a must get. As to your question, you don't have to play GoW 1&2 to understand #3. If you watch the beginning movie as you start up the game it pretty much tells you the story of the previous two games. I played GoW3 before 1&2 and I understood it perfectly, only recently did I buy the HD collection.

InFamous 2 is a brilliant new super hero IP. You don't need to play #1 to understand #2 though, so bonus! I found #1 to be incredibly and mind numbingly boring!

The Resistance series has always been top class! Great graphics, great story and awesome weapons! I'd recommend you play through all of them first, but it's not a train smash if you don't.

Catherine, there is a whole thread dedicated to Catherine a few threads down. Fantastic game! I'd recommend anyone and everyone play it!

Dead Nation, best zombie game you will EVER play!! It's utterly amazing!! I was blown away by how addictive this little game is! It's an analogue shooter, but still, amazing!

Outland has got to be one of the best platformers you'll ever play! It really does go back to the roots of platforming. Really fun! And the art direction is amazing! And don't get me started on the fantastic OST :P.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are brutally hard action-RPG's. But the challenge makes it addictive, and you really get your money's worth in these games! Bother games are over 50hrs+ minimum!

Trine, what can I say about this game to do it justice? It's a platformer with a cute story. But where this game shines is in it's art direction and OST! Some of the tracks you will hear in this game will bring you to tears! And the art, the colours, words can't do it justice. Please just get these two games!!!

    Otherwise, happy gaming !!

    Thanks Duke.

I went out to get Resistance 1 & 2. Will get 3 when I'm done with the first two.
    Still looking for Uncharted 1.
Also got Mortal Kombat. Just just started, but I actually quite like the story mode.

I think I saw Trine 1 & 2 available on PC somewhere. If that is the case, I'd rather get it on pc. These console controllers are hell for me. The Move controller works cool for games that have it enabled, but the standard controller... my hands are just not designed for them.
I'll make a list of the rest of the games and get them as I see them on special.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Most if not all console games are set to run ay 720p max, Really not sure why though but it hardly makes a difference I suppose.

Well, add to that God of War 1-3 (although author already has 3). Three of the greatest titles to ever be released imo.

Also, Little Big Planet. Yes, the box art looks a bit childish. But once it bites, you'll love it. But pick up LBP1...skip on 2...2 sucked...

I would recommend to get to grips with the controller and even giving God of War a spin on Titan (the most difficult) setting, before you attempt Dark/Demon's Souls, just to get used to the extreme difficulty (although God of War and the Souls series differ loads in terms of the type of games they are). The "Souls" titles are hardcore and not for the easily discouraged. It will test your endurance and will to keep going. In my opinion Dark Souls is the better of the two, but note, it does not carry the "Prepare to Die" tag for nothing. Die you will....and many, many, many, many times.

ViperGTI, you mentioned the price of games:
Yes, welcome to the world of console gaming. Although, I have seen some shops selling Diablo III for R599, so....But yes, console games, when bought new, arent cheap mostly. But you learn to shop around. For instance, I picked up a new title yesterday for R99, where, two shops down, it was selling for R499...

There's a load of game shops online. From the mainstream Kalahari.net or Takealot.com, to smaller like Zaps (that also has a physical store). But not everyone is keen on shopping over the net, so if that's the case, (I see you live in Nelspruit) your best bet will then probably be a BT Games if you're not keen on buying online. Forget about the likes of Look and Listen. Their titles are way overpriced (although you can pick up the odd bargain at Musica I have found).

Console games are fecking expensive, but on the bright side, you should be able to get a lot of good games that have gone platinum for much cheaper.

If you're worried about the display settings, when you turn on the PS3, I think if you hold the power button in for about 5 seconds or so, it'll auto-detect the HDMI etc. Not all games will run at 1080 though, a lot of them run at 720

You should definitely play all the Uncharted games, and God or War was awesome, although I missed GOW2. Heavy Rain is a worthwhile experience, although not so much a game as an interactive movie really. Killzone 2 was very cool, although the controls were very heavy. I hear it's better in KZ3, but I haven't played that yet. Infamous was also really good. Still need to try out Infamous 2

In terms of the controller, it is a huge change from PC games, but you do get used to it after a while, although I still way prefer the xbox controller to the PS3 controller. You'll find that some games actually work much better with a controller than with kb/mouse. Assassin's Creed type games for example.

If you're only playing single player games, the only thing you're really missing out on not being online is patches, and access to the PS Store. The PS3 can connect to a Wi-Fi network though if you're worried about pulling cable.

Good choice for a console! I watch tons of movies on mine, just hook up a HDD to it and voila! just know it has to be in fat32 I think.

On the point of internet, its good to be connected for system updates and patches. Ive downloaded infamous and wipeout HD when sony got hacked and they gave us presents for free

Some good games, resistance series, uncharted series, god of wars, infamous (quite fun), gran turismo
