    Broker...'nuff said

Half the price of any other quote from going 'direct' (Outsurance, Budget, etc).

I have found that any price they give you, is always negotiable.

I have phoned Outsurance on many occasions, and they would give me a price. Then you say something like "I got a better quote from you last time / I got a better quote from a rival company" and they quickly say "hold on" and each time they have come back with a cheaper quote.

I got my home (building) insurance down from 420 to 302 by just asking for a better price.

They are really all like that, you just need to play them against each other. Basically they want to try get as much money as possible from you, but they want your business, so if you ask, and especially if you have cheaper quotes, they will go lower.

Then every year when they send you a letter to say that your premiums are increasing, you can give them a call and say kak, I'm older, so a lower risk, I have another year of claim free history, and my vehicle has depreciated so the book/market value that you're insuring me for is actually less than last year, I want a reduction in premium. You can usually get away with paying slightly less than before the increase.

    Try PSG Consultants.
Santam is, in my experience the best. - Currently have my ZX6-R @ R300p/m comprehensive cover

    Yes, that's true.

I got married end of last year, and when I phoned them and told them, they also dropped my total premiums with R10 per month

you dont have to go through a broker with Santam. you can contact them direct. i find its even cheaper than going through a broker. i just changed my insurance today for my new car (2012 1.2 Rio) and for a full comprehensive insurance including car hire and that shortfall cover im paying R643.02... for a brand new car. everywhere else i got quote over R750...

Outsurance, MiWay, etc. are all a scam, and Hippo is apparently owned by the same company so steer clear of their recommendations.

Get yourself a broker and behold the vast savings and lack of bullshit they'll bestow upon you. (Personally I recommend Alexander Forbes, best rate I could find and exceptional service.)

jip they are all underwritten by Auto and General(AA, Budget, Outsurance,1st for Woman etc) with the exception of Mi-way who are underwritten by someone else.
