    Today dota 2 officially out of beta and free to play on steam

    I remember there being talk of SA dota 2 server at launch a few months ago, anyone know if this is going to happen? or are we going to have to play on eu servers forever ?

    Well sort of;

    Q: Why would I spend money while Dota 2 is still in Beta?
    A: We don't really think of Dota 2 as a beta, but we also aren't ready for everyone to show up and start playing just yet. We are constantly updating the game with new heroes, bug fixes, and new features. None of the items you purchase or the progress you make will be lost or reset once the game is available for everyone.

    Q: If it is Free to Play, why can't I play now?
    A: We've still got work to do before we can support the number of players who've shown interest in Dota 2. Right now we're working on expanding our server infrastructure, which is the primary bottleneck.
    There is a $39 item in the in-game store which grants you access to DOTA2 and $39 worth of items, like a new courier and some items items.

    Yip and it works...the key and stuff that is...so if your friend wants in you can buy one and give it to him and keeping the clothing.

    Chances of there being a local DOTA 2 server is close to nill. From my understanding Valve would like to keep all DOTA 2 related services under their direct control, meaning that no GSP's are to get their hands on dedicated server software. Perhaps at a later stage we'll see dedicated server support pop-up, but certainly not now. All we can do is hope for the best and assure ourselves that SA's gaming market is not as minute as it's made out to be, a DOTA 2 server locally available would be great, same thing for Blizzard servers. Even if GSP's are not able to get hold of it, at least run one under their control in the African region.
