Post Black Ops II and Innovation

As last night was coming to a close, I popped in my NAG content disc to see all the trailers and interviews I may have missed in my lack of internet this past month. Suffice to say, I watched the Gametrailers interview with Mark Lamia, the Treyarch Studio head.

In this interview he details how Black Ops II intends to bring innovation to the Call of Duty franchise. Some of the innovation mentioned includes things like an interesting array of weapons and gadgets (expected considering the timeline), more control of some of the vehicles (Yes, this includes actual flying of aircraft).

The more interesting things he goes on to mention include decision making where there will be numerous points in the game where you make choices (probably done in COD style QTE's as this isn't an RPG), these choices might even have an impact later on in the game and how it ends (A certain game comes to mind but let's not derail the topic before we start).

Words and phrases such as sandbox and side missions, were thrown in for good measure. He even hints at the game being less linear, giving players more than one path to tackling a scenario...

So this is for both the Nay and Yay camp: What are your thoughts? Is this enough in terms of innovation?

I certainly think it's a step in the right direction!

I've been a CoD fanboy since CoD (1) and while I've never been a fan of Treyarch's CoD's I will say that since Blops they're the only study showing willingness to change a few things around and improve upon others. MW3 was just MW2 2.0 sadly .

So yeah, I think the inclusion of slight RPG elements into the SP along with a whole host of new MP features will potentially make this installment in the series the best CoD (MW is still the best) yet!

And before anyone says "The graphics are crap" and all that shit, then please do us all a favour and not post. I'd sooner have a solid gaming experience from the get-go with minimal patching that go the BF3 route and release HUGE patches that break as much as they fix until a few months down the line...

The slight RPG and sandbox elements are what really intrigue me the most, it basically signals the intent at a slight variation of endings. Whether it works for them or not, it's a sign that they've heard just about enough of the word "innovation" thrown at them...
