Yeah forgot about Lotro (been ages since I played). Before they implemented the DX10 features I would say it was about the same, with some misc features going to either title.
As far as Entropia, well do not know too much about it, but if it is using the Crytek 2 engine there is little wonder.
Anyways I think Aion is FAR from looking bad, in fact it looks very damn awesome depending on ones tastes. Admittedly they need to work on those ground textures...
I still think that NCSoft opted for a certain lack in parts of the graphical department to help the game run better on more PC's while also being a lot more robust in large scale open PvP. It is all good and well being able to have a game look fantastic running at 60+FPS when alone or in small groups, and then to suddenly crawl when you get into larger scale grouping - then forcing you to 'quickly' change settings, and wait while your PC adjusts (which is does not always handle so well).
I think a lot of people got let down by this game due to misplaced expectations. They thought it was going to be something 'new' and 'fresh', when in fact it is just WoW v.2 with some difference here and there. It is a very polished game supposedly with great endgame OPvP, but it is nothing new.
Could Aion look better? Certainly yes. Does the game look bad? Absolutely not.
