Why we can't have nice things. This was a huge cock up from CVG's part, considering how much focus has been on sexism in the industry the last few month they should fire whichever editor green-lit this idiotic idea. Im glad some of the industry vets spoke out on this, too bad it wont stop them from having booth babes on their booths.
What if sports like Rugby didn't have cheerleaders with only men actually going out and watching it with no woman in sight. Even on TV when they focus on the crowd you can bet your gonna see pretty ladies.
If you want an event to be popular you got to have babes there.
I highly doubt cheerleaders affect the popularity of Rugby at all, sure it's a bit of eye candy but people wouldn't stop going if they weren't there.
It's like the IPL when they had it down in SA. I went to almost all the matches in Durban and I found them having the cheerleaders jump up on stage for every bit of action to be damn annoying, mostly because they block your view.
Also your statement about it being only men watching is completely wrong, lots of women support rugby and you'll find tons at games.
Its always a pleasure having beautiful women around but i think rating them is unnecessary and disrespectful. The 'judges' are probably a bunch of miffcats themselves.
Booth babes has been part of E3 since forever. Being all PC and shouting sexist every time a girl promotes a game in a costume from that game is just stupid. A lot of girls enjoy dressing up (cosplay anybody?) and if they can get paid for it, so be it.
If you don't like them having a competition to see who looks the best then the Miss SA, miss universe etc are also unnecessary and disrespectful isn't it?
Beauty pageant contestants choose to be judge, women who get paid to stand in a booth wearing a certain outfit don't.
Cosplay is different, thats a choice. Most booth babes gets paid so its a job. Having them there isn't the problem, objectifying them with scores is. E3 or any expo isn't a beauty contest, so scoring the women on their looks has no place there. Your attitude of "its always been there" is exactly like those of the people who say sexism in games is fine because its part of the culture. Would you still sing the same tune if there where a bunch of male models in tight jeans and no shirts walking around advertising the latest title?
Oh would like to disagree... if you are a woman wearing what the E3 girls wear, you DO want to be noticed / seen / judged. The kak comes in when you are NEGATIVELY judged, then everyone makes a massive fuss about this monety.
No stripper goes out stripping and then says "my clients only see me as a piece of flesh", they should know this.
