According to D2D's website Batman Arkham Asylum is still a PreOrder Only. So how did they crack it?

And five seconds later a crack was released to circumvent to glide problem. Crackers are going to win this fight each and every time. I crack my originals to keep my discs safe so I have no qualms with them.

While this is pretty funny everyone seems to have missed the "...is a hook in the copy protection system..." part. The nerfed controls isn't the DRM itself but simply a feature of the DRM.

A little bit of digging seems to indicate that the PC version of B:AA is protected by SecuROM. So the DRM isn't that innovative. The core protection is still about limited online activations. There isn't a copy protection measure I despise more than online activation every time you install, so sadly Eidos won't be seeing my money for this release. Not that they're crying about it, I'm sure.

Not actually, XIII had the same thing - key cards wouldn't drop, only certain weapons dropped, you took more damage as the game went on etc etc

There is no need to go and reprogram the game.
yip, thats all you have to do. In XIII they were slightly smarter with this, they made each disabled feature do a different check. CD check, speed check, out of bounds check, bit check all disabled different things. Slowed the illegal gamers for a while.

Down side to this is that it makes the pirate community go Rep happy and starts mini wars between the cracking communities which ultimately makes the hacking faster, quicker and more professional as they fight for rep.
    Wait... what?

ALso Operation Flashpoint back in 2001, Each time you played the game from a cracked exe the game ran slower and slower and slower, as depicted in a warning in the intro. Also in ARMA 1, pirated players found themselves turning into birds couple of minutes into play.

Yeah, I actually find this better to do - I find it horribly frustrating knowing that people are playing a pirated game before I even get my legit on delivered! At least kinda half spoils the fun for them while I wait for a "bug free" games
    Wait... what?
