I've been following this. While its good that people who abuse people on FB and YouTube and the like will now be able to be held accountable it only really applies if the person doing the trolling is in the UK. US or other countries are not going to release the data to the UK judges. Also I see thing being turned into a cluster fuck by a surge of sudden "accusations" being flung around.
This sounds impossible to police and implement. Being trolled is like an internet rite of passage!

I think we can draw parallels to the discussion we had the other day about sexism or casual racism in gaming & geek culture. Yeah the odd bit of trolling hasn't killed anyone but if you go read some of the things people post on places like YouTube walls of Facebook walls I can understand why I could be considered a form of harassment. I know this women who got the court to name the people who where "trolling her" on FB received some seriously fucked up stuff & not just verbal abuse but people telling her how they are going to rape her & enjoy the fact. I think that sort of stuff has no place anywhere.
However like you said actually policing this will be practically impossible. I do however welcome any ruling that rips off the mask of anonymity which these cowards hide behind.

OmegaFenix the self proclaimed, "legendary troll hunter" saying something about trolls in a warning to trolls thread, wow who would have thought? haha
But yeah I don't see how it will be effective enough in controlling it. You are always going to get some 14 year old pimply little shit running around on the webz trolling because prank calls went out when internet became cool.
contact me if you are in Cape Town and looking for PC Hardware at very competitive pricing. We also do web and graphic design.
Seriously, I think what they mean is "On line harassment and defamation of character" in short can be called trolling but I suppose it's up to the idiot UK legal system to determine that.
***EDIT
Sorry I just had to!
