Crystal Dynamics explains Lara Croft's attempted rape

Because they want players to feel protective of Lara

I'm sure I'm not the only one to think this is one of the dumbest ideas ever

I agree. In her previous outings Lady Croft wasn't a strong female character, she was just a hyper sexualised one. This latest reboot looks to fix this. As for the attempted rape scene, rape is a real issue for millions of women the fact that Lara herself fights back instead of some hero rushing to her aid is great. Also why should gaming avoid sensitive subjects like this? As long as its handled tactfully I see no problem.

This game is one huge rolling ball of fight or flight. I get that, everyone else in here seems to get that. The rape scene adds to the concept of this girl, trying to survive in some jungle, infested with shady guys who have been sitting there without women for a while. Human history is riddled with scenarios where men don't just kill a woman. Her fighting this off definitely deepens the story of survival and does actually make you want to get her through this.

Does this story conform to the general "padded"/protected view of what should be in stories/games/movies? No.
Should it conform the the above mentioned view? Hell no.

I think this is going to be awesome, can't wait to see more of this game.
    That's what she said.

Pretty sure that Lara is going to beat the crap out of her attempted rapist and pretty sure that men and women acoss the board are going to love the concept.

Yeah I think the trailer already showed Lara blowing the dudes brains out, except this time she isn't happily bouncing around 2 seconds later.
