I've always enjoyed the fighting mechanics in the DoA series. The xtreme vollyball 2 was garbage though, so at least they're moving the 'main feature' into the fighting game as costumes. Hopefully that means they can focus on the fighting game engine and not worry so much about how realistic the cleavage is.
Yeah that wont be the case. Once upon a decade ago DoA was an OK fighting game. Now its about 1 thing: BOOBS. Fucking swimsuits as pre-order bonuses, are you fucking kidding me? Sad thing is a whole crap load of sad lonely ( or horny) little teenage boys will get their mommy's to buy them this garbage. So in a year DOA Naked Chic Edition will get the green light just because this tripe sells.
Oh boo freaking hoo.
The game industry, like any other industry that provides a product, is driven by demand. The reason we have had a call of duty every year isn't because of some evil corporation wanting to steal all your money, its because there are enough morons out there that will keep buying the same game, year in and year out. As long as there is a demand for Call of Duty, Activision will keep green lighting sequels faster than they can be made. The reason this kind of shit (DOA swim wear editions and its ilk) keeps cropping up is because people keep buying it. If you want better games stop wasting your money on shit. So many great IPs where shelved not because they were bad but because they didn't sell for the simple reason that the main stream "gamers" are sheep who go out and buy the latest thing just because everyone else is. So spare me the "such is the decline of the industry" BS, if anything such is the decline of the consumer, too stupid to think for him/her/it's self.

I have to disagree with you to a point, i've been playing Doa since Doa 1 and it has always had outlandish contumes for the female characters, Doa 1 on the ps1 had up to 20 costumes for the female characters and the gameplay was still spot on, when doa 2 got released for the dreamcast I remember people/reviewers complaining about the lack of costumes for the characters especially the female characters (thats why it got so many damn updates). i buy the doa games for the gameplay and the graphics cause Dead or alive games has always been ahead of the competition graphics wise, i remember Doa 2 was the only game with multi tiered environments when it came out and it looked amazing, and now other game allowed you to make so many chained attacks
apart from my soul calibur and street fighter collection, I have gone out and bought every major console doa fighting game and it has always been about the gameplay for me, when the volleyball game came out i bought it initially just to show off the graphics to my friends who all sported ps2's back then and i was the only one with an old xbox and i was surprised that it was actually a good game.
my current doa collection
the only DOA game i did not like Was xtreme 2 and that was purely because i expected a better follow up to extreme beach volleyball and it was essential a reproduction of the then perverted mind of tominubu itakagi.
Nonetheless i've been playing the alpha demo of Doa and i have high hopes for it and i will definately purchase it.
